ACCOMODATION
The ISA committee cannot arrange accomodation for you anywhere outside campus limits. When requested however, we do help new Indian students with temporary accomodation fairly inside campus premises. Please mail any of the ISA committee members or post a request for temporary accomodation on the ISA website. Accomodation will be provided for a reasonable period of time, within which you'll have to arrange for some other means to move into your own place to live in.
Kindly browse through the ISA website and you can find everything that you're looking for (You might even find another person looking for roomates)
OFF CAMPUS HOUSING
The ISA committee cannot arrange accomodation for you anywhere outside campus limits, neither do we offer guidance regarding the subject. Offcampus housing is cheaper, but finding roomates to share your rent with, will be difficult since living oncampus is a major trend, atleast amongst the girls and most boys - this is owing to saving travel time and expenditure, and to a certain extent - safety.
If you need more information about off campus housing , check out www.craigslist.com
AIRPORT PICKUP
Yes, ISA committee will pick you up from the airport whenever you arrive. Please fill out the airport pick-up form on the website. Filling it out Accurately will help us schedule your pick up more effectively.Kindly fill out TWO seperate forms - that of FOCUS and ISA to encertain your pick up. Both links are provided on the ISA website. One person will be responsible for accompanying you from the airport. If you've been assigned temporary accomodation by the ISA, then the same person will be assigned resposibility - starting from airport pickup to escorting you to your temporary home.
ORIENTATION
Most information you'll need will be found online; similarly, everything about orientation and related information can be found on the PSU website. For example : http://www.pdx.edu/orientation/transfer_winter.html is the link to finding information about orientation.
FUNDING/ASSISTANTSHIPS
The issue of finding funding is solely the responsibility of the individual seeking it. Funding opportunities are not the same with every passing quarter. Professors or your advisors cannot ensure you an assistantship the moment you land in the university. Kindly check PSU's faculty website to learn more about individual Professors' research interests and understand where you fit in. Contact the faculty member when your interests match that of his/her. These are the preferred ways to approach any faculty member with your interests. Contingently, they can help you with furthering graduate study under them if they think you fit the role.
There are links in the PSU website which declare openings for teaching assistants (TA) and research assistants(RA). Kindly fill out the respective application forms if interested.
JOBS/ WAGES:
ISA is not responsible to find oncampus jobs for newly arriving students. All queries and applications must be forwarded to the respective jod offering departments in the university.
1.Oncampus jobs are mostly available during every quarter if one forwards his/her applications in advance to the respective oncampus establishments. Kindly check www.career.pdx.edu for updated information about job opportunities. Most jobs pay an hourly wage of 7.5$ to 10$ . However, it is the responsibility of the student to stay alert, apply for oncampus jobs and follow them up to help them in their job search more effectively.
2. Offcampus jobs : it is Illegal for new students to work in non PSU organizations for the first nine months from the time of their enrollment in the university.
